Sausalito, California Real Estate, Land, History and General Information
Sausalito is located just across the Golden Gate Bridge with about 7,000 residents. It is on the eastern side of the Marin headlands and most homes offer Bay views or panoramic views of the San Francisco skyline. The commute time to San Francisco is quick, usually about fifteen minutes, and there is also a ferry service across the Bay to the financial district.
Sausalito is predominantly an adult community with fewer children than other southern Marin suburbs and the public school system has less than average ratings as compared to the rest of Marin County so private schools are typically preferred.
Sausalito is a tourist destination, known for its mature downtown with many restaurants, boutique shopping and galleries. There are a number of yacht harbors and some residents live on houseboats.
The housing stock begins in the $350,000 to $500,000 level for condos and extends upward to over $2,000,000. Most homes are in the $800,000 to $1,000,000 range.
