About Solano County
Over the next 20 years, "Solano County will have the largest percentage growth in jobs, population and households of any county in the Bay Area." This will include a 61 percent increase in jobs, 136 percent increase in population, and a 40 percent increase in households. (ABAG Projections 98)
Located about 45 miles northeast of San Francisco & 45 miles southwest of Sacramento, Solano County covers over 800 sq. miles, a majority of which lies in the Sacramento Valley. Counties that border Solano County are: Napa, Yolo, Sacramento and Contra Costa Counties. Local agriculture is diversified with approx. 70 different commodities including fruits, nuts, vegetables, grains, seed, nursery stock & livestock.
Major cities within Solano County are Benicia and Vallejo, Fairfield, the County Seat, Vacaville, Rio Vista and Suisun City.
