Benicia, California Real Estate, Land, History and General Information
Benicia's proximity to Bay Area, Sacramento and Northern California markets is outstanding. The City is located 35 miles northeast from San Francisco and 57 miles southwest from Sacramento, the State Capital.
History is integral to the City of Benicia. Founded in 1847, Benicia just recently celebrated its 150 Centennial Anniversary. In 1850, Benicia and Monterey were the first two cities in California to incorporate. On February 5, 1853, the California Legislature voted to move into Benicia's new City Hall and make it the State Capitol. Benicia was the State Capital for one year. In 1854, the Legislature relocated the State Capital to Sacramento.
Benicia has moderate Mediterranean weather resulting in dry, warm summers and moderate winters. The mean annual temperature is 69 degrees with an average annual rainfall of 18 inches. Located on the waterfront, the City benefits from cool ocean breezes year round.
The Benicia Unified School District consistently, scores the highest Scholastic Achievement Scores (SAT) in Solano County. Many of Benicia's schools, elementary to high school regularly receive distinguished school awards, rated in the top 15% of all school districts nationwide by SchoolMatch, Inc., a private corporate site location firm.
